Do Miracles still happen today?
“‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people."
We have all read the Biblical account of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead, and wonder - "Does that still happen today?" I have long heard the saying - 'Seeing is Believing'. But honestly I think that is backwards. Spiritually at least. I would suggest that the true saying is really ' Believing is Seeing'.
Over the past month, I have had the opportunity to hear first hand from several of God's 'Rivers' and their accounts of God's working of miracles - through their lives. I have not seen these miracles first-hand, but I do believe them - and therefore can 'see' them. There is a mighty moving of the wind of the Spirit, and miracles are happening daily around the world. We who live in our 'isolated spiritual cocoons' here in the United States, sometimes have a hard time believing how widespread this movement really is.
I was recently in Nigeria - That would be Africa for those of you who are geographically challenged - and spent a couple of hours with 'Desta'. [Not his actual name] I now SEE.
Last week I was in Kansas City along with 300 or so for a Conference. There I again heard what God is doing, not just in foreign lands, but here in the United States as well. I heard again the story of 'Emilia'. [Not her actual name] I now SEE.
There is a 'theme' here. It goes something like this: Discover what God is revealing - to ME - through His Word - and then OBEY. So simple - So powerful - So life changing!
The stories from DESTA and EMILIA are told in two recently published books: Miraculous Movements by Jerry Trousdale, and The Father Glorified by Patrick Robertson & David Watson. I am including them 'as they appear in the books' below.
PLEASE do not view this blog post from a
TL:DR ("Too Long:Don't Read") perspective.
Take the 10 minutes to read them both.
You will not be disappointed.
Believing IS seeing.
I had been a church planter for some years when I received training in how to make disciples the way Jesus did. We really did not know how it might work, but we wanted to try and see. My friend Samuel—a very smart guy, Samuel is—had planned to go with me to a certain Muslim village. In my strategy, I had taken a map and made a note for my team to avoid one community because it was too harshly Islamic and a very dangerous place for Christians. So Samuel and I headed out...
Emilia had grown up in a small town in Mexico. Her husband had abandoned her, and she had brought her six children to the United States in hopes of building a new life. She was working two full-time jobs and looking after six grandchildren when her eighteen-year-old daughter Rosalyn was diagnosed with Lupus. Suddenly, Emilia’s hopes for an independent life were dashed, as her two paychecks were eaten up by medical bills; it wasn’t long before the family was evicted from their....
