How's your Spiritual GPS working?

Have you ever used your GPS and got totally lost?
Have you ever stopped to ask for directions?
How many times have you said:
"I know where I am going"
and then got lost getting there?

My wife and I took a week of vacation not long ago. On our way home, we decided to take a route we were not totally familiar with - at least the first part of the journey. We entered our home address into our GPS and headed for home. After we had gone a few hours following the 'directions' of 'the kind and friendly 'GPS LADY', we made a turn onto familiar I-40. Okay, now we 'knew' where we were, and relaxed a bit - that is until the 'now not so friendly GPS LADY began giving us directions, like "turn back', and 'in 400 feet make a u-turn'. It was honestly quite annoying, because we 'knew the way', and didn't trust the way the 'now angry GPS LADY' was sounding. So, we did what any self - respecting 'know it all' would do - we turned off the 'now ignorant GPS LADY'. - and we happily continued on our way.
After another half hours drive, my wife said, "This doesn't look right" - "Of course it's right, I know where I'm going' - was my 'manly - I'm in control' response. And then it hit me when the sign read - Memphis 210 miles. I was going the wrong way - and had been for some time. So I pulled off and stopped.
"There is a way that seemeth right to a man, but ......" Proverbs 14:12

So we got out the map, turned the GPS back on. It now asked us for our current location. We clicked okay, apologized to the 'nice GPS LADY' and started our way back TRUSTING the GPS to get us on the right road home.

There are times in my life when I have been guilty of treating the spiritual journey in the same way. "I know where I am going". "I know how to get there. "I have been here many times, and don't need directions. No need for any spiritual GPS". There have also been times when I have been guilty of getting annoyed at God's word, or the Holy Spirit's voice, saying "turn back, or 'take the next exit'. And if honest, I would have to say there have been times when I have 'turned off the Spiritual GPS'.
But aren't you thankful, that even though we may turn off the GPS, God doesn't . He continues to 'speak'. And it is in those times that we can 'Stop - get out the map (God's Word), reconnect the GPS (Holy Spirit), give Him our current 'location', (Prayer), and ask God to guide us back on the path toward home. (Heaven).
