Law or Grace?

“I have not come to destroy the law, but to fulfill it."
Matthew 5:17

Is Forgetfulness a sin?

In Leviticus 4: 27-28 it says… (my paraphrase), “when one sins unintentionally, but later becomes aware of it, he is then guilty and must confess”.  If a person runs through a Stop sign, but didn't know it, he still has violated the law. But you might say, 'Aren't we living under grace and not the law?'   Yes !   It is Both/And. Why?

Because Jesus came NOT to destroy the law, but to fulfill the law. He became the sacrifice for our sins, but our sins are still sins. And, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". I John 1:9

One of my late father’s favorite sayings was…. “And your point is?”

In the last posting of Rivers Not Reservoirs I unintentionally forgot to add to the bottom of the post a short but simple sentence. That sentence I omitted was:

‘Thanks to Jay Link for his thoughts on this subject from his book
Who’s in Charge Here.'

No big deal you say. Perhaps. But again, is forgetfulness an excuse? Is forgetfulness a sin? We could debate the issue I suppose, but when the Holy Spirit speaks to me, I am learning that I must OBEY.

As in Leviticus, when I became aware of my forgetfulness and the omission, the Spirit said to me… “Mark, you must ‘confess’. So, whereas to some of you, many of you, or none of you, this would be 'no big deal', for me and where I am on the journey of learning to Be His Obedient River, it is a big deal.

So this very simple act of omission, or even ‘old age forgetfulness’, requires of me a very large act of obedience.

It is a bit ironic that the focus of the blog posting was, “I can do nothing, but what the Master ‘instructs’. So, to no-one but this slave, I have done what the Master has ‘instructed’, and I am doing my best to be a good and faithful slave.

Another posting from the journey of one of 'His Rivers'. Thanks for letting me be transparent.
