James 1: 17 Amplified
My wife and I were having light conversation at breakfast. She has this incredible ability to notice the 'distant look' in my eye that always prompts her to ask, "What are you thinking?"
"I was asking myself the question - What have I given away this week?
Which was quickly followed by a picture in my mind, of going through 'my stuff', to find something that either I don't want or need to give to someone. Followed in nanoseconds by the thought that the inventory of 'my stuff' will then show a deficit. Maybe that is something I might need later?
"You know, as long as I think of giving something away, I am guilty of what we use to call, "stinkin - thinkin'. I see myself as a reservoir and not a river. I see myself as the one controlling what I give and to whom I give it, from ME.
Maybe the more accurate question should be, "What have I delivered to someone this week - or just given - without the away? Everything is from God. I am just the delivery-man.
She responded, "That's what I did yesterday".
"Yes, and how is that?
"I picked several flowers from the garden, put them in a vase and took one to Paul & Gloria, and one to General." (Both our neighbors)
And as is so often the case, my wife once again shows me by her instant obedience what it means to be a river - receiving the gifts that God hands us, and delivering them to whom God intended to receive. In so doing, she became a river - the flow was through her, not from her.
I Have a delivery from GOD for YOU !
